There's something about cocktails which have a story behind them which give them a certain mystique .This is one of those drinks .
Mcconnells whiskey is a distillery from my home town of Belfast in County Antrim , Northern Ireland. It is a relatively new distillery , well technically! It has recently been brought back to life but this cocktail tells the story of why the distillery disappeared for over a hundred years .
Dunbar Street was the home of one of the J&J McConnell’s warehouses in the early 1900s, until 1909 when disaster struck and a fire blazed through the building destroying 500,000 gallons of Irish Whiskey .
Imagine how much money that would have been back then !!!
Ingredients
40 ml McConnell’s Irish Whisky
10 ml Elderflower liqueur
15 ml Lime juice
15 ml Sugar
05 ml of Saline
Method
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until frosty.
Strain into chilled coupe.
I garnished mine with a lime wheel and lemon thyme.
Drink down and enjoy Rustys.
Remember to drink better and responsibly.
