The Rusty Bartender

The Best Martini Ever

There may be no other cocktail in the world which creates so much heated debate as the most famous of them all , The Martini . It can be created with only 2 or as much as 4 ingredients going by some recipes. A big variation is by using either Gin or Vodka , differing brands give differing flavor profiles. The method in which the drink is made can be varied as well .You ever heard of James Bond? He likes his shaken . Many would say he is wrong but who's going to tell him ? Stirred is the preferred choice by many a bartender but hey the best drink is the one that You prefer right ? So I am not going to tell you otherwise! Garnishes also change the drink . Many prefer none . Some prefer lemon , olives or even pickled onions. Each to their own i say.

However there are a few points which will make any Martini stand head and shoulders above the rest. Try and keep all your ingredients as cold as possible before making. And for goodness sake keep your glass chilled . I definitely recommend placing your glass in the freezer before making any cocktail , but especially this one !

I'm not going to sit here and give you a history lesson about Martini's maybe that will be a future post! But you're here for my recipe for my own personal preference for the best Martini ever so here it is.

Ingredients

2 oz. London Dry Gin (I prefer Tanqueray)

2/3 oz. Dry Vermouth (I prefer Noilly Prat)

1 dash of orange bitters (I prefer Angostura Orange bitters)

Method

In a mixing glass place all ingredients over ice . Stir briskly for no more or no less than 10 seconds. The liquid should be sufficiently chilled and the edge of the alcohol will have been just taken away and not over diluted. Strain in to your chilled cocktail glass . Garnish with a lemon twist.

I love the botanicals from the gin in this drink and it pairs lovely with the dry vermouth . The orange bitters give the drink an extra dimension and the smell of the lemon twist will awake your senses ! The Martini is strong and bold and those with i high alcohol tolerance will definitely enjoy this recipe.

Drink down and enjoy Rustys . Remember to enjoy responsibly and to drink better.
